{"id":64,"date":"2012-08-15T20:08:38","date_gmt":"2012-08-15T15:08:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/professorontherun.wordpress.com\/?p=64"},"modified":"2015-06-12T09:59:04","modified_gmt":"2015-06-12T15:59:04","slug":"august-2012-illiotibial-bands-raise-their-ugly-heads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/professorontherun.com\/?p=64","title":{"rendered":"August 2012, Illiotibial Bands Raise Their Ugly Heads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In late July I got a pair of brand new, real running shoes.\u00a0 Some Mizuno Wave Inspire 8&#8217;s.\u00a0 They felt great.\u00a0 Maybe too good.\u00a0\u00a0 Feeling emboldened with my new foot gear I went out for a run on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/109807833\" target=\"_blank\">August 7th<\/a>, and instead of stopping at 3-4 miles, just kept going.\u00a0 A full 6.3 (10k!) by the end.<\/p>\n\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe height=\"405\" width=\"590\" frameborder=\"0\" allowtransparency=\"true\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/109807833\/embed\/7ee219a6406fa4ecd177e845c688d47ba7061981\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n\n<p>The problem was that with each mile I felt better and better.\u00a0 It was exhilarating.\u00a0 A full 10k and it felt great.\u00a0 Even better, I clocked a 8:29 min\/mile pace, which for me was great.\u00a0 An awesome improvement from the 9-10 min\/miles before.<\/p>\n<p>A couple days later I put in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/92045390\" target=\"_blank\">4 mile run<\/a> at 8:27 min\/mile, again feeling great.<\/p>\n\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe height=\"405\" width=\"590\" frameborder=\"0\" allowtransparency=\"true\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/92045390\/embed\/73d5a76ded5d3f24078805dd8c04c93178e5503c\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n\n<p>Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was upping my mileage faster than my body could handle.\u00a0 On August 15 I went out for, what I assumed would be, another PR run.\u00a0\u00a0 About 1 mile in I got a sudden sharp pain on the outside lower corner of my right knee cap.\u00a0 If I walked the pain went away, if I ran it killed.\u00a0 WHAT?!<\/p>\n\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe height=\"405\" width=\"590\" frameborder=\"0\" allowtransparency=\"true\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/92045381\/embed\/bf02b66b436f8cebe413c408e1cade8536fd6982\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n\n<p>I walked home, got online and diagnosed my symptoms.\u00a0 My Illiotibial Band.\u00a0 Arg.<\/p>\n<p>I was so frustrated.\u00a0 Right as I was starting to honestly enjoy running, my body says &#8220;I don&#8217;t think so!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I took the next month+ off, only doing bike rides.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In late July I got a pair of brand new, real running shoes.\u00a0 Some Mizuno Wave Inspire 8&#8217;s.\u00a0 They felt great.\u00a0 Maybe too good.\u00a0\u00a0 Feeling emboldened with my new foot gear I went out for a run on August 7th, and instead of stopping at 3-4 miles, just kept going.\u00a0 A full 6.3 (10k!) by the end.
